Socorro County
Located in central New Mexico, along the Rio Grande, Socorro County was originally created by the Republic of Mexico in 1844. It takes its name from its principal city and county seat. Until the creation of Catron County in 1921, Socorro County stretched to the Arizona Border. The name socorro comes from the Spanish word for aid or help.
