Hidalgo County

Hidalgo County is in southwestern New Mexico was named for the patriot priest, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, who in 1810 led the revolt that resulted in Mexico’s independence. Hidalgo has been called “Mexico’s George Washington.” Lordsburg is Hidalgo’s county seat and is the center of vast ranching, farming and mining interests. The New Mexican share of the Coronado National Forest lies entirely within Hidalgo County.
