Cibola County

Cíbola County is New Mexico’s newest county, created in 1981 from what had formerly been western Valencia County. Cíbola sits in western New Mexico and is named for the Seven Cities of Cíbola.

The county is the center of the state’s uranium mining and milling industry and the county is also the home of several tourist attractions including the New Mexico Mining Museum at Grants, El Morro National Monument, Blue Water State Park, Mount Taylor, Ácoma (sky City) Pueblo, Laguna Pueblo and El Malpais National Monument.
