Comments: Why did so many people leave northern NM for the San Luis Valley?

Comments: I can only go by what my parents told me. They left Las Vegas/Sapello in 1924 because there was no work for the men folk. Many were hired by Great Western sugar beet company in northern Colorado to plant, tap, and harvest the sugar beet crops there. They stayed on after that work because there was an abundance of farm labor work. I believe the same holds true for The Valley.
